About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made Toto a household name across the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads of previous albums, and features some heavy rock. The album was their first to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and make a new album using the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a major tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

With a range of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world rhythms to jazz and soul, the group continues to delight fans with their energetic arena rock.
Despite their fame the group had to face a number of setbacks in their later years. In 2002 the keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, a series of lineup changes and a string of albums that were disappointing led Toto to call it quits for a period of time. The group returned to touring in 2012 following the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the group and the tour supported by sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was bolstered by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had rejoined the band.
